Mosaic of Medusa

$2,971.00

The Greek mythological gorgon Medusa looks straight ahead with tired eyes. She is one of three gorgons who could kill anyone by looking at them as Medusa infamously did by turning her victims into stone, yet, she remains the only gorgon with a feminine, beautiful face. In place of her hair are living snakes that protrude from every angle of her face in hues of black, brown, and beige.

The demigod hero Perseus, son of Zeus and Danaë, killed Medusa by cutting off her head. From the blood of her head sprung her two children with Poseidon: the winged Pegasus, whose wings are illustrated in white and gray-hued stone, and the giant Chrysaora.
